There is something magical about the Christmas holiday season. Maybe it’s the sense of togetherness as your home is filled with loved ones. Or the memories made around the dinner table or braai, as two or three generations unwrap the present that is unrushed quality time.
Let wonder and joy be at the centre of your home this holiday season. Here are five quick ways to spread the magic:
Set the right tone from the first moment your guests arrive, with a welcoming wreath on your door or on a focus wall in your entrance foyer. Use a large arrangement of white flowers in a clear glass vase or a selection of candles grouped on a tray for an increased sense of light and luxury.
Tip: get everyone into the festive spirit by playing your favourite Christmas music throughout the house.
Lights have a way of immediately lifting a room and adding a sense of celebration. Reconsider the atmospherics in your living room and add elegant fairy lights, a standing lamp or even a statement hanging lamp, such as our catalina chandelier.
Create the same sense of light during the day, by adding a lot of white to your spaces, including a mirror or two and welcoming as much natural light as possible.
Tip: make sure you stock up on candles and sparklers (especially if you have little ones around) for Christmas eve.
Make the right move
It needn’t take a lot of effort to create a Christmas wonderland in every room of your home. Simply add a few key elements of colour and texture to your existing decor. Think lots of crystal glass with touches of silver and gold. Mix in white on white, greenery and touches of dusty pink for a sense of glow.
Tip: before you go on a shopping spree, take stock of what you have. Unpack your favourite candle holders next to a new statement ornament, such as a reindeer or angel.
The joy of giving (and receiving) will never grow old. Show how much you care for those around you, by choosing a gift that you know they’ll love. We’ve made your job easier, with a wide selection of gift ideas for every person in your family.
Tip: if you choose to display your gifts, opt for stylish wrapping that complements the rest of the room’s decor.
Christmas is a time to celebrate your own traditions, and even make a few new ones as a family. Why not make a point of decorating the Christmas tree together, or making a decadent pudding as a family on Christmas Day?
Tip: to instil a sense of thanksgiving (and provide great table conversation), give each person a card to write what they are most grateful for. Share them at random times, such as during dessert, and place them on a mantle or side table afterwards.
Whatever you choose to do with your loved ones this Christmas holiday, we wish you more wonder and joy than your heart can hold.
