CLEAR GLASS IS PURE CLASS: THREE TRENDS TO TRY THIS SEASON

 In Trends

Your home should be stylish but comfortable – after all it’s a space for you to express yourself. The clear glass trend is currently pushing the boundaries on the home style front as it’s both bold and simple.

While glass is an obvious choice for serving, wining and dining, it’s something that doesn’t always get the attention it deserves. Why not try one or two of these trends and see how it transforms your home.

From the roots up

The simplest, most beautiful floral trend popping up everywhere is rooting plants in water. All you have to do is cut just below a leaf, at a point called the leaf node (this is where the rooting hormone is). Fill aclear cylinder vase or a slightly tapered vase with bottled spring water, which works best due to the high levels of minerals and the clear glass lets the sunshine in. Herbs (mint, oregano, basil, rosemary, lavender, and sage) grow fast in water. Some houseplants that also work well are English ivy, philodendron, wandering Jew, purple passion, and coleus. Then sit back, relax and watch the roots grow. This is a novel feature to have in your home – adding elegance and greenery bound to match any room.

Balance and harmony

A clear glass vase is perfect – as a functional item and an aesthetic work of art. It’s an easy way to enhance the ambiance of a room while maintaining its balance. But plain doesn’t mean it has to be boring. Spruce up your clear glass vase – like this stylish narrow vase – with textures and colours like stones or marbles.

Small stones or pebbles add a beautiful rustic look to any arrangement. Buy the coloured glass pebbles you want or find a collection of small stones from your garden and place them at the bottom of the vase. You can decide how shallow or deep you want them to lie. Then fill the vase with water and put your flowers in – it’ll look like they’re emerging. You can create a similar effect with different coloured and different sized marbles.

Clear glass is pure class

Any dinner party or celebration isn’t complete without the perfect decor or party favours for the guests. To ensure that your flower arrangements pair with any theme, use at least two different shapes and sizes of vases. Choose a larger vase for the centre piece; this creates a focus point and draws attention. Use this organic tear drop vase and fill it with your favourite flowers. Then use two smaller trimmed vases to offset the curves of the other, and fill them with neutral colours. If you want the flowers to last for days after the occasion, use anthuriums or calla lilies.

Clear glass is sometimes tricky because the water might get murky and stain the glass if it stands still for too long. So how do you keep the clear glass clear? Make a simple paste with half a tablespoon of salt and add in enough white vinegar to create a paste. Rub this on the residue left by the water and let it sit for 10 minutes. Then, wipe it off with a sponge – the sparkle will return!

Clear glass is a beautiful element that will add timeless class to your home. If you’re happy with the vases, why not step it up a notch and accentuate your entertainment area with a round glass bistro table or this walnut and glass coffee table.
