CREATE A WELL-BEING SPACE AT HOME

 In How Tos, Inspiration

Well-being is defined in the dictionary as “the state of being comfortable, healthy, or happy.” Creating and dedicating a space in your home that helps you achieve this is a simple task anyone can do with any amount of space. A quiet space that can be used as part of your self-care routine or daily wind down time. Go on, you deserve it.

Function

A well-being space can be for both mental and physical relaxation. So if for you that’s a morning yoga session or simply meditating, this will determine where your space will be and what you will put in it. If you prefer a mind wind down, then you may need a little less space and your tools might be adult colouring books or a puzzle so a comfortable chair and table will be important for you.

Location

Where you create your space will depend on what you intend to do in it. It can be inside or outside or a bit of both. You may also be limited with space, but don’t worry, there are plenty of creative ways to carve a space out anywhere.

Inside well-being space ideas

If you have an extra room in your home that doesn’t get as much use as it should, consider adapting it to become a useful space for your well-being time. That pristine and untouched guest room can still serve as a room when guests do visit but all that in-between time could see the space being used as a quiet meditation zone or workout space. Add a beautiful and comfortable chair in an available corner of the room, place a side table next to it on which you could place a relaxing drink, candles, diffuser or speaker. Whatever you need for your time. This space can easily be adapted when guests visit or they can enjoy it during their stay to relax and unwind.

Making space

If space is an issue, creating a well-being box is a great way to access your relaxing essentials in one place that still feels like a dedicated space, no matter how small.

A woven basket is a perfect holder for your items and can be stored in a cupboard, under the bed or next to a couch ready for when you need it. A yoga box could include a mat, bands, blocks and incense.

The bathroom can also become a zone for you if space is limited. A frame on the wall or shelf with meditation reminders or affirmations can serve as a daily reminder to take a few minutes to yourself. With the door closed, music playing and the diffuser on, the bathroom can become an instant private space for a simple yet effective morning stretch or meditation routine.

Outside well-being space ideas

If you have outside space, creating a well-being space can be simple and highly effective. You could carve out a space with a single lounge chair or bench or you could keep it natural and connect with the earth by sitting on the ground. Your space could simply be a spot where you lie or sit on a luxurious rug or throw to take time to yourself in the fresh air.

A smaller outside area like a patio or balcony can also serve you well. Take your portable basket or holder with your well-being items whether it be a book or simply a comfortable cushion outdoors and enjoy.

Remember that a well-being space is simply somewhere for you to relax both mentally and physically. It does not need to be anywhere special or have any planned activity, if you like to read, do breathing exercises or just cuddle with your cat, as long it leaves you feeling comfortable, healthy and happy you’re getting it right.
