It started with some frustration and a new idea

In 1978, Dyson founder, James Dyson, decided to do something

about the poor performance of his vacuum cleaner. His problem was a bag full of dust clogging the system, causing the suction to drop. Working on an idea that cyclonic technology principles could be applied to vacuum cleaners, it was 5 years and 5,127 prototypes later before the world’s first bagless vacuum cleaner became a reality. And it changed the vacuum cleaner world forever.

With the royalities from sales of this first cleaner, James Dyson was able to set up his own company, Dyson Ltd. A research centre and factory were opened in 1993 in the Cotswolds in the UK. The next revolutionary cleaner was made here, the DC01 (Dual Cyclone) which was the first vacuum cleaner to maintain 100% of suction 100% of the time.
