 In Inspiration, Style, Trends

It is the new year and time to tackle our resolutions and embrace change. Leading homeware retailer, @home partnered with paint and colour experts, Duram; to help South African’s incorporate change in their homes.

Duram and @home bring you the colour and furniture trends you need in your home this year. Whether you are a minimalist, lover of luxe or a bold trendsetter, they’ve got something for you.

The Minimalist

“Monochromatic colour schemes do not have to be dull. A neutral grey colour scheme never disappoints.  Greys will always remain popular locally. Still, we’ve seen that darker colours, such as the Duram Shy Elephant, has become more popular for interiors in the last few months and will continue to grow.  Grey tones can make other colours, textures and designs stand out,” Lizemari Moller from Duram explains.

Incorporate some minimalistic monochromes into your home by mixing different hues of the same colour. A slightly darker grey couch paired with a lighter backdrop creates a look with depth and simplistic elegance. Switch your monochrome look with the seasons by opting for champagne like colour in winter to warm up your home. Mixing neutrals creates a monochromatic marvel. Light grey couches mixed with functional décor such as a floor lamp creates the minimalist look instantly. Add a modern coffee table, and you’ve got the look.

The Luxe Lover

“Pantone just released its global colour of the year for 2020; it’s called Classic Blue, which is sure to influence décor and fashion trends this year.  Duram’s local version of Classic Blue is part of the new Habitat Collection which consist of 90 beautiful colours. Our Black Mussel has a beautiful rich undertone, and we can already tell it will be very popular in 2020,” Lizemari continues. Pairing rich colours and jewel tones are a perfect way to incorporate a luxury look into your home. Mix some dark reds or emerald greens to create the look of opulence and glamour. These tones pair very well with brass accents so be sure to have a look at @home’s range of brushed metal furniture and décor. A luxurious, dark Persian carpet is a perfect luxury investment to make your home look and feel fit for royalty. Add to the opulence with velvet seating and a brass table or drinks trolley.

The Trendsetter

“South Africans tend to prefer more muted paint colours. Try a combination of our Echo Corner Coral Tree, Pumpkin Shell and the ever-classic Darling White adds a fresh look to any room. In summer we tend to be a bit braver with colour in our homes and adding luxurious textures.  Yellow is making a big comeback. Duram has some beautiful new shades in the Habitat Colour Collection; Acacia Honey and Spring Daisy.  Spring Tide is another beautiful colour that we see everywhere at the moment from lighting to bedding and crockery.”

Add these light washes of colour to your home paired with neutral furnishing. Alternatively, painting one wall in a statement colour can allow for little accents of that colour throughout your home for a cohesive, yet fun space. @home offers pops of colour in all areas of your home. Add some quirkiness to your dinner table with some bold porcelain, or a light wooden screen for a touch of drama in the bedroom! Plants are also a great way to include bold colour in your home as the natural bright colours will blend seamlessly into any space.
