IndulgeOvernightGuestsThe festive season is fast approaching and with it comes visits from family and friends. It’s a time for getting together with people you love and enjoying their company, even just for the few days a year that they come to stay. As much as they love you for who you are, you still want to make sure your home is ready to welcome them and pamper them as much as possible – especially when it’s your mother-in-law coming to stay! We’ve put together a short checklist that you can use to make sure you’re ready to impress with the best of our home goodies.

Create the perfect guest bathroom

It may not seem like it, but the bathroom is one of the most inspiring rooms in the house. It’s essential to keep it spotless, as there is nothing more terrible than a grimy bathroom for your guests. Keep a stack of fresh, fluffy towels on a shelf and make sure there is somewhere to hang them once they’re done. Leave a few luxurious soaps, foam bath and bath crystals for your guests to enjoy and they’ll make the room smell heavenly too. Lastly, put out an elegant bottle of hand cream on the sink for that extra special touch.

Create the perfect ambience

Give your home a guesthouse feel with a few natural wax candles and a couple of luxury fragrance oil diffusers. Try one of these beautiful handmade Max Benjamin products from his artisan studios in Ireland. There is bound to be a scent combination that will suit your home:

  • White pomegranate: fresh pomegranate with exotic rosebuds bringing warmth and sensuality to this romantic and relaxing aroma.
  • Lemongrass and ginger: an uplifting blend of oils to liven your spirits and refresh and invigorate the mood of a room.
  • Mimosa and sweet amber: infused with delicate mimosa and soothing sweet amber, this fragrance is perfect for a calm and relaxed environment.
  • Fresh linen water: a clean, soft floral aroma including lavender and sweet orange, perfect for a stylish home.

Make the perfect bed

After a long day of festivities, make sure that your guests fall into a stylish but comfy bed made up of the best linen. Invest in higher thread count sheets and duvet covers for a smoother touch and softer feel against the skin. There are plenty of options – from 200 or 400 to 800 threadcount sheets, in 100% cotton or Egyptian cotton.

Make the bed up like you’d hope to find in a hotel. Start with a fitted sheet in a summer colour, then add a flat sheet in white or a neutral colour and tuck it in around the edges. Next, add a summer duvet covered in a stylish matching shade and fold the flat sheet back over the duvet. Finish the look with a comfy pillow or two and a couple of patterned scatter cushions for décor. There’s nothing quite like sinking into a freshly made bed with luxuriously crisp sheets, and don’t forget that little chocolate or gingerbread man for the pillow.

Create atmosphere

Now that you know your guests are feeling at home with perfectly laid out bathrooms, luxurious bedding and a house that smells like heaven, it’s time to create some atmosphere. Add a few fairy lights or lanterns to the dining area and dim the lights, put on your favourite playlist and get that drinks trolley out. There’s only one thing left to do and that is make sure there is plenty of food and a healthy breakfast waiting for them in the morning. Enjoy this special time with family and friends and fill your house with laughter this festive season.
