PANTRY STAPLES FOR WINTER COOKING

In Home Chefs Club, How Tos, Recipes

As the days and nights get colder, we look to our food to warm us up from the inside. As our food requirements change so does our kitchen set up. Take a bit of time to get your kitchen set up for winter cooking and get ready to enjoy those hearty, comforting winter meals every day.

Top Pantry Ingredients to stock up on right now

Whole grains

Instead of overloading on refined carbs this winter, stock up on healthy whole grains and ancient grains such as brown rice and dirty rice, whole rolled oats, quinoa, millet

Pulses, beans and lentils

Beans and lentils are great additions for winter soups, stews and curries. A few of the best to have stock of are black beans, lentils (red, brown), split peas and moong dhal (split mung beans).

Seasonings and spices

Bay leaves, curry spices, red pepper flakes, turmeric and a great selection of Italian herbs goes a long way to making your favourite winter dishes even better. For those delicious warm winter desserts keep stock of warming spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg and all spice.

Nuts, seeds and nut butters

Keep yourself and your family healthy with the good fats that come from a selection of seeds and nuts. A variety of nut butters is also great for healthy baking and winter desserts, or just to add to your fruit in the morning or as a snack.

Invest in better pantry storage

Keep everything in its place so that when you need to start cooking, whatever you need is easy to find. Clear storage containers and stackable storage solutions keep your pantry neat and easy to navigate. It is also easy to see when you are low on something before it is too late. Woven storage baskets are a lovely, country-feel solution for keeping your fresh produce, especially for all those lovely winter vegetables like butternuts, pumpkins and potatoes.
