The holiday season is fast approaching, bringing with it an opportunity for festive family fun! If you’re hosting loved ones from out of town, you’ll want to make sure they’re as comfortable as possible – and what better place to start than their sleep space? The summer days are long and often filled with a lot of activity, so carving out a sanctuary for your guests to retreat to and recharge is an important consideration.
As with any room refresh, you’ll want to declutter. Often times, spare rooms become a dumping ground, hoarding everything but the kitchen sink! Start a few weeks before silly season and clear incrementally. You’ll not only have a more organised home, but your guests will have room to unpack their bags and feel more settled.
With a clean, fresh base, treat your guest rooms as you would your own. Invest in good quality mattresses and linen. Choose natural, breathable fabrics – or opt for luxury microfibre, which is soft to the touch and easy to wash. Cool, calm colours help to restore balance, but needn’t lack personality. Bring in floral or print accents with soft furnishings like scatter cushions and lamp shades.
Imagine the space through your guests’ eyes and decide whether it is as functional as it is aesthetic. Give it a test run, and tweak accordingly. Out of time? Safe bet items for a pleasurable stay include freshly laundered towels, a vanity mirror, multi-way plug and the WiFi password.
Finally, cosy up the space with gentle lighting, fresh flowers and scented candles. Make the holiday stay at yours one to remember and cherish. Happy holidays!
