You will never buy them again, because nothing beats fresh rolls. Pure and healthy! Makes 8 Rolls


  • 1 x 10g packet dry yeast
  • 455g cake flour
  • I cup (250g) warm water
  • 1 egg large
  • 3 Tbsps. melted butter
  • 3 Tbsps. white sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 Tbsps. olive oil

Egg Wash

  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tbsp. milk
  • Sesame seeds, or any other seeds that you have in your pantry, like poppy or sunflower seeds


Place yeast, warm water and ½ cup flour in a mixing bowl (or stand mixer) and mix well.  Leave until mixture becomes foamy, about 10min.

Whisk the egg, melted butter, salt and sugar thoroughly into the yeast mixture with the remainder of the flour.

Using a dough hook, mix at low speed for 5 minutes until soft and sticky. If dough is very sticky, you can add a little more flour.

Remove from mixing bowl onto a flowered surface and make into round ball and tuck the loose ends underneath. Wipe the bowl clean and gently rub with some oil.  Transfer dough, cover with cling film in a warm place until doubled in volume, 1 – 2 hours.

Turn onto floured surface and divide into 8 equal portions.  Gently roll into round balls. Pat and stretch them into round disc shapes and transfer to baking tray. Space them apart so they won’t stick together.

Leave to double in volume again – approximately 45 min – 1 hour.

Beat the egg and milk and lightly brush the rolls. Be careful not to deflate them.

Sprinkle rolls with the sesame seeds and bake in a 180°C preheated oven.

Bake for 15 – 17 minutes, or till golden brown.

When making a batter or bread roll dough, weigh the raw dough balls for the perfect portion size.
