SUPPORTING LOCAL ARTISTS: CHRISTO FRANCOIS DU TOIT
A new collection of original local artwork is now available from @home. The wildlife series by local artist Christo Francois du Toit tell stories intricately drawn within our most recognized African wildlife, the giraffe, rhino, elephant, and whale.
Born in the Lowveld of Mpumalanga, du Toit’s art is inspired by his childhood spent in a game reserve near the Kruger Park. The bush made a profound impression on him where he started drawing everything he could see, from ants to zebras.
Wildlife and the stories within
In his art du Toit explores the relationship between wildlife and the modern human experience.
Each piece tells a story hidden within an animal, free-flowing tales of the cost of being human, with all of its intricately woven chaos, and our relationship with nature.
Starting with a basic silhouette of a particular animal as a border, the stories within are unleashed in somewhat chaotic style.
As Christo says “the stories just happen; it takes its own shape.”
All work is done in pencil and finished with micro-fine tip ink pen.
