Can you believe it? It’s already November and the festive season is fast approaching. The décor is up in the stores and everyone is looking forward to the holidays.
So, are you ready?
- Plan your décor
This year, commit to creating a considered, consistent look for your festive décor. Decide on a style and colour scheme and stick to it. You most likely have a few timeless décor pieces that you like to bring out each year as part of your Christmas tradition. Plan your new décor buys around these and work them all in together. Keep the look consistent from door wreath to mantlepiece to table settings.
- Plan your calendar
The diaries are going to soon start filling up. Plan any parties, dinners or lunches you want to host now and send out your invites. It’s so much more fun to have people over to your home, where you can show off your style, cooking skills and be the gracious host. It is also a good idea to decide now if you will be hosting Christmas lunch or dinner at yours. Then the fun begins with stocking up on glassware, dinnerware and other entertaining essentials.
- Get in your gifting ideas
Things tend to speed up around this time, and before you know it you are rushing around the shops trying to find gifts for everyone. This year, do it different! Make a list of who you are buying gifts for and fill in their interests next to their names. From there you can create a gift made up of a few beautiful things that feed that interest. Think gift boxes filled with coffee makers, beans and treats for the coffee lover, or a fluffy gown, pretty slippers and the most indulgent, soft towels for the person who deserves a bit of time out.
- Create your menu
If you love to cook, then the best part about the festive season is planning your festive feast, and cooking it for your nearest and dearest. But a lot of planning goes in to a full Christmas spread. Have a look at our Home Chefs Club for recipe ideas from Lorna Maseko and other local chefs.
- Create a little bit of magic
It’s the small things that can make all the difference. Spread a little bit of magic and joy with a few added touches such as lights, personalized place cards on your table with a small thank you gift. Choose one or two more quirky Christmas décor items for your coffee table or entranceway and make it your own. Whatever you do, do it with a sprinkle of magic.
